This story terrifies me as I think of folks giving their lives to the rejection of God. (Thanks to

Is Christianity creeping into culture? The atheists (
http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-et-atheist18jul18,0,2545765,full.story?coll=la-home-headlines) think so. And they are concerned that the rise of “religion” in society will send them to the sidelines and make them scapegoats. They’re not happy that Bush is backed by “believers,” that one of the most popular books was written by a pastor, that "The Passion of the Christ" could be so popular, or that the Ten Commandments are even being debated.
Their plan? Politics. Work together (something atheist groups are not good at), improve their image, and go to Washington. Atheists have formed the Godless Americans Political Action Committee (
http://www.godlessamericans.org), are lobbying politicians, and are holding events to honor people who do not believe in God. Their goal, according to American Atheists president, Ellen Johnson, is to have “at least one presidential candidate courting their vote in 2008.”
