What Scott could not have possibly known at the time was how off limits that balcony was.  I only was allowed on it 3 times.  I once made the mistake of taking a (rare) visiting child friend out there.  I was only 11 and I was read the riot act by BG.  Which of course meant spending an hour having her purse her lips and say, "So, Rachel, what made you think you could just march through that study with a stranger?"  I am afraid the way we lived gave me very little idea of personal space and privacy and was desperately trying to figure out what I had done wrong so I could give the right answer and get out of her study/bedroom.

Rachel,
Maybe it was Scott's hair raisng experience on that balcony that made it off limits. Wink It's probably Scott's fault; he was there 12 years before you took your 'stranger' to see the view of the backyard.

Scott,
You should write a book something like 'The Secret Antics of Scott McCumber' by Scott McCumber. And don't forget to let your son read it so he can get some ideas. Cool
Don't know if you have heard of Gordon Korman, a Canadian author. His stories are hilariously funny. When my son was younger I discouraged him from reading GK's book, as my son did not need a source to feed his already active imagination.

BTW I just remembered another GG saying:
It's what you learn after you know it all that really counts.

Marcia:

That last saying was not GG's;  he took it from Harry Truman, 33rd president of the United States.  Probably just one of many things that has credit for which no credit is due.   Roll Eyes

I once went over to GG's home to do some secreterial work, along with his current secretary.  I was not allowed to go into his study, but I was working right near the door.  The sister stepped out of the study, and lo and behold, I saw stacks and stacks of money on the table!!  Then it hit me-NO WONDER I couldn't go in there...ok maybe I'm a little dense, but now I fully understand!!!! Shocked

Clarence, I have to agree with you on wanting to watch the doors or the parking lot.  Most times when HB came up for ANOP I would lend my services to either just hang out or get over to Jack-In-Da-Box for some grub.

Also when out there had some "real" talks with other brothers and sisters about how things were going.  I will never foget the talk with Kenny Huy before he went to Seattle, he was very honest about the whole getting married scene and how controlled his situation was (did not suprise me when he left shortly after going up to Seattle).

Regarding visiting George home, went there three times, and trust me after the first time I tried to avoid going there at all, that place was very cold to me!  What happened to Rejoice in the Lord A-L-W-A-Y-S, and again I say R-E-J-O-I-C-E.

Thankfully, I won't ever have to listen to Tim G's rambling, vowel-munching messages again.
To be honest, I did learn much from Tim as when I went into the Assembly, I didn't know where the books of the Bible were.  My first Bibles studies at the beach was the end of Hebrews, then John then a year in Genesis.

Nevertheless, I remember when Tim was preaching at CSULB and a brother was writing down notes.  I found out afterwards he wasn't writing down content but keeping track of how many times Tim used the word "tremendous".  (I think he neared 100 that afternoon if my memory serves me.)

One other thing.  As a doorkeeper in Fullerton, I was frequently assigned to watch the front door, which meant sitting out in the hallway.  Also, I often volunteered to parking lot watch, especially during Sunday afternoons and Wednesday nights.  People thought I did it because I was a gung-ho soldier for the testimony, but really I did it to get away from it all for a while and think.  Many times it was quite nice to be in the parking lot, chilling out and watching the sun set, or watching the dance of the clouds in the sky and the birds flying...
I think every doorkeeper learns these tricks.  Dan Notti (leader of the DKs) was a master at it.  I remember once talking to him in the board room at the Assistant League (as opposed to the bored people in the other room) during an entire Wednesday night Bible study.  Lord's business, of course. I'd like to clarify something I said earlier.  When I went to GG's to help out his current secretary, I was actually seated in the conference room-where GG used to hold am Bible classes.  There was a door in the room where the secretary came in and out of to give me instructions, etc.  I'm not sure if GG's study is connected to that room or not...but, anyways...just wanted to correct myself... For some reason, the following memory popped into my mind tonight: while I was living in Fullerton back in 2000, I was having some serious doubts about the ministry, and I was not afraid to vocalize them.  One night, after getting nowhere with Tim, I called Mark Miller.  Diane answered the phone, and I asked to speak with him  in order to set up a meeting.  I heard some muffled voices in the background.  Diane comes back to the phone and tells me that Mark was not going to speak to me, and that I should go talk to Ginger.  I said, "So you mean to tell me that a leading brother is refusing to meet with me?"  I was told again, he wasn't going to talk to me-go talk to Ginger.  It was just a little while later that I moved back to SLO and left the Assembly.

Whatever happened to the leading brothers being available anytime to talk to the saints?  I guess Mark Miller was exempt from that...whatever!
