the assembly bar n grill

i saw this when i was out saturday night. george must be diversifying now that his number one money-maker has petered out.

we went in (they have great burgers, btw!) and i came across this award on the wall. what assembly bar n grill would be complete without a waco wings award?

Brian, you didn't happen to be in Shaumborg Illinois recently did you? Or was it Hoffman Estates? Anyway, I was there recently and saw "The Assembly Bar and Grill" and thought the same thing. "Oh yeah, he did grow up in night clubs and dance halls. Maybe he just returned to the family business." I took a picture because it cracked me up. My kids got a big kick out of it too.

yep, thats the one. more hoffman estates then shaumburg i think. i'm not really that familiar with the area - i was out with friends who are. they knew enough about the assembly to be tolerantly amused

Slightly different, but similar story:

Early on in my Assembly life, the Huntington Beach outreach (before they became an official "testimony") met in a storefront building on Main street, a couple of blocks up from the pier.

Over time, the city of Huntington Beach figured out that they could make some real $$$ if they upgraded the area and got some top dollar businesses in the area.  So the "Jesus Our Hope" storefront became the "Longboard Bar and Grill".

When I returned to the area, it was all built up and I attempted to locate where we had our Bible Studies.  I finally figured out it was the bar (they still have a picture inside of what it looked like when the Assembly had it) and I walked in looking around, trying to get oriented to the remodeling.

This man was sitting on a bar stool and he apparently had a few.  He raised his beer glass and said in slightly slurred speech, "come on in, brother"!

It gave me an errie feeling of what it means "the glory has departed".

One question about the Assembly bar and grill:  Wouldn't it be more proper for them to say "We don't have a name.  We're just a simple gathering of drinkers, locally expressed"?

Waiter,  "we don't have a manager....but several of us take responsibility to see that the food and liqour are poured promptly."

Patron,  "Who started this restauraunt? Who owns it?"

Waiter, "The Chamber of Commerce raised it up."

Does one really want to eat in an establishment where they pour the food, (albeit promptly), as well as the liquor?
