Comes The Dawn

After awhile you learn the subtle difference
Between holding a hand and chaining a soul
And you learn that love doesn’t mean security
And you learn that kisses aren’t contracts

And presents aren’t promises
And you begin to accept your defeat
With your head up and your eyes open
With the grace of a woman not the grief of a child

And you learn to build all your roads today
Because  tomorrow’s ground, is to uncertain for plans
And the future has a way of galling down in mid- flight 

After awhile you learn that even sunshine burns
Especially if you get too much of it
So you plant your own garden
And you decorate your own soul
Instead of waiting for someone to decorate you with flowers

And you learn that you can endure
That you really are strong
And you really do have worth
And you learn and learn
With every good bye that comes your way
You learn to stand on your own

And  you see how special you really are
Without realizing it you have overcome
And now you know your not alone
So you smile and go on your way
And you begin to see your self differently
For many have gone that way too so don’t give Up!
