On the "Assembly Reflections" website there is a small discussion about why in the
Assembly George would say "You may now salute your bride". The answer is actually
quite simple. You "salute" your bride on the wedding day, because in about ten years
you will say to one of your friends when talking about your family:
"Look, I am the Captain of this ship. I know, because My Wife, THE ADMIRAL, told
me I am."
