That is what the stat's say. Very few people doing a majority of the talking. Not one of them disagrees with the other.

As to your last sentence,  "If these people didn't post, there would be very little traffic at all on the list."

Good observation!.

Golden,

I guess everyone's question is, "What's your point?"

You're stating the obvious. This is a biased bb. It is anti-GeftakysAssemblyism.

So what?

Dissenting opinions are welcome. If they are reasonably well-thought out and proffered by people with the courage of their convictions as evidenced by their willingness to sign their names, then they will be politely debated and discussed.

If they are slapped on by some gutless anonymous poster with little regard for logic, evidence, etc. then those opinions will probably be subject to ridicule and vitriol by otherwise nice guys like me! Grin

Don't like it? Take a hike, Mike.

Golden,

Perhaps a little story could help you grasp the concept.

I’m an Illini fan. I visit a lot of Illini websites. The other day an important recruit chose Duke over Illinois. I went to the Duke website.

Amazingly, it was populated by people who were almost all pro-Duke! They were saying all kinds of mean things about the Illini! I was offended. Hurt.

There was one guy, though. IlliniBill. He came on and said the Dukies were a bunch of jerks. I couldn’t believe what happened next. All the Duke posters attacked him! Can you believe the nerve? I was sickened. Poor IlliniBill. I stood up for him. Anonymously of course. It’s scary in there. Those big bullies attacked me next!

Finally, I’d had enough. I got out of there as quickly as I possible could. Whew! Who knew when I went onto that Duke site that all those Dukies would be so . . . so . . . PRO-DUKE! It’s madness.

Guess I’ll stay on the Illini board from now on. If any anonymous Dukies ever visited our site posting anti-Illini sentiments, you can bet they’d be treated as treasured guests!

Figure it out.

Scott McCumber

PS – The above is fiction. I’ve never posted anything anonymously in my life.

"And it shall come to pass that the one who posteth often, in the top ten shall they be. Not of eleven, but of ten shalt they be. Nor of twelve, but ten alone, seeing that they posteth often, of ten shall they be and no more, for ten shall be the number. But the one who posteth not, or posteth less, of this number shall they not be, seeing that they posteth less than the number of the ten who posteth more. And thus shall it ever be. Let him who posteth, posteth well, and it shall come to pass that if thou shalt be of the ten it shall be well with you, or of the fewer too, it shall be well with thee. Oh bless the man who posteth, and he who posteth not. And so shall  it ever be.  Amen."

(Hezekiah 11:12)

P.S. Andrea---there are 8 other people who need more help than I do, at least, according to the stats. Grin

The way this thing works is that the top 10 do all the talking, and lots of other people listen to what we have to say.

There is far more traffic on the BB than just us, only that the others prefer to read and remain silent.

golden, you should go after the silent non-posters.  It's their fault.

To whom it may concern:

The "Top Ten Posters Awards Dinner" has been moved
from Monday, December 1st to Thursday Dec. 4th.
Please RSVP soon and be sure to note whether you would like the Lobster Rockefeller or the Filet Mignon.
Remember, the top poster will receive a brand new 2004 Jaguar convertible. Right now Brent Tr0ckman appears to have a solid lead, but you never know what can happen in a few short weeks. But who's keeping statistics?

2004 Jaguar?! I need to talk to Jesus Freak/Lucas. I remember last winter he wrote a killer scrip that posted about 300X in one night!

Oh, wait. Tr0ckman banned that stuff from the board. Dang. I'll have to think of something else! Smiley

First of all, I want to say that I would have been in the top ten if I had actually posted everything that I wanted to  Grin

I've been away from the computer for a couple of days so just read this stats thread. Servers would crash if we all said everything we'd like to say. I think it's God's mercy that many of us have said as little as we have.
I see I'm an above average poster. Or is that too introspective of me to notice?
This discussion almost made me laugh as much as Joe S's cult recipe collection.

Happy weekend, everyone.  All 400 and however many of you there were/are.   Wink

golden,

Ever wondered what the average number in a telephone book is?

Statistics is an interesting and important subject because it tells stories about the subjects that are analyzed.  Unfortunately, it can be used to make weak arguements appear strong, or make somebody who's telling the truth appear as a liar.  For me, I use it as a tool for constructive purposes.  As a structural engineer, I use it all the time to help make decisions that require consideration of multitudes of parameters to reach the most optimal solution, like a mechanic using a torque wrench to take the guess work out of how much to twist the fasteners.

One time I was involved in a court case where a very expensive building was improperly designed.  Excessive cracking and sagging in the concrete structure where commonplace, and tenants were unable to open doors, a real mess.  My job as a forensic specialist was to determine exactly why the building was a problem, so I went about analysing the structure and indicate for the trial where all the excessive stresses were located and what were the options for repair.  Pretty simple case, as I thought, until the defendant's expert witness started to blab off a bunch of statistics that had nothing to do with the problem at hand.  He was saying how the building is "unlikely" to collapse in the event of an earthquake, and ignoring all the engineering work that proved otherwise.  Fortunately, the judge saw through the bs statistics and had them removed from the evidence pile.

Your point regarding the top ten posters and the magnitude of their contributions reminds me of the attorney that helped defend the developers of a dangerous building.  They don't show the whole picture.  Looking at the numbers, it appears that there are a lot of people who contribute a lot to this bb.  94 people have contributed at lease 10 posts.  Out of the 200 people who have contributed anything at all, it's a significant number.  As a forum where all former, current, and never-were members of the geftakys cult (gc) can sort of gather and say something, it is quite a larger number than the amount of people that were premitted to contribute something during a seminar.  I attended 8 seminars and only two people were on stage:  GG, and somebody else that taught us how to sing an obscure hymn one time.

Overall, you're statistical diatribe irrelevant and puts me to sleep.  I don't really care what your name is, but I would be interested in hearing about your assembly experience if you would be interested in telling it.
