"Families from Around The World" is a series of videos that will introduce your child to different cultures. My students love them! They are 15 minutes each and each video has a main character who is a child between 5 and 10 years old. The child takes the viewer with them through-out their normal day; getting out of bed, breakfast, school etc... My class was very surprised to see the diciplined lifestyles of the Japanese. The Japanese 3rd grader gets home from school at 3 p.m. only to return again at 6 p.m. and come back home again at 9 p.m.! Now, contrast this with the Brazil video. The whole family lives at a pace that is very laid back, "Hey," "Let's all go to the beach and dance!" This has lead to some interesting class discussions! Who do you think is going to have a good job when they grow up? Who do you think is happier? Which family would you rather be in? "BRAZIL" "BRAZIL" "BRAZIL" (O.K. I'm a failure!) The greatest value is that children can easily recognize that people are basicly the same! They want the best for their families and they love each other!
